E-Text Directories

Many other sites around the world are exploring ways of providing electronic texts through the Internet.

If you are looking for specific Electonic Texts, these two seem to be good sites to begin searching from. But be aware that they don't index everything!

The On-Line Books Page *
"a directory of books that can be freely read right on the Internet. It includes: an index of thousands of on-line books on the Internet; pointers to significant directories and archives of on-line texts; special exhibits; and more!"
http://digital.library.upenn.edu/books/
The Internet Public Library Online Texts Collection *
The IPL Online Texts Collection indexes over 7700 titles that can be browsed or searched by author, by title, or by Dewey Subject Classification.

The IPL collection is currently "down", but expected to return.

Other available directories are:

The British Columbia Digital Library
"The focus of this set of links is on collections of electronic texts (not individual titles) preserved through libraries, archives, museums and corporate or private initiatives."
SearcheBooks.com
a very spare* but useful search engine for eBooks

http://www.searchebooks.com
(* in fact, so spare that I have not been able to find out who created it, or why, or how to contact them! If you have more information, please let me know.)

And of course you can also find E-texts through the usual search engines, e.g. Google
